What does nephro mean?
Nephrology is the science of the kidney (Greek «nephro») and is a branch of internal medicine that deals with diseases of the kidney, metabolism of water and minerals, and the acid-base balance within the body. Nephrologists treats kidney diseases using conventional (non-surgical) methods.
Kidney disease often occurs as a result of high blood pressure, diabetes or autoimmune diseases, after severe infections or as a side effect of certain medications. A thorough examination of the kidneys can help to detect and treat any diseases at an early stage.
